Biography
I am 63 and have served as the Arapahoe County Commissioner representing District 5 since 2004. Prior to that I served in the Colorado State Senate and House of Representatives, and on the Aurora City Council and the Aurora Planning Commission. I am on the Board of the Metro Waste Water Reclamation Commission, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, the E-470 Public Highway Authority and Developmental Pathways, as well as Treasurer for Colorado Counties, Inc. Married 41 years to Pat with 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Affiliated with the Rotary Club of Aurora, the Aurora Historical Society and Aurora Historical Foundation.
What do you consider to be the four most important issues facing Arapahoe County?
- Communication about County Facilities
- Transportation Infrastructure
- Building our Cities
- Parks and Open Space
If elected, how to you plan to address such issues?
- Provide effective communication to and with the public about our courts and jail space building needs so that necessary solutions are formulated and implemented.
- Provide the needed leadership in assembling the partners and dollars necessary to keep people and goods flowing smoothly throughout the county.
- Work more closely and co-operatively with our towns and cities (all 13 of them) to maximize services to our citizens and manage the impacts of growth.
- Keep the visionary thinking that created and funded the Open Space and Trails Program through visionary thinking about the needs and long term character of our county.
What do you see as the County's role in the future?
Continuing to be the state-wide leader in finding and sharing innovative solutions that help us achieve our mission of "Enhancing your (our citizens) quality of life through exceptional delivery of services and efficient use of public funds." Working with the legislature to correct problems in Human Services' programs and administration.
Are there other items you plan to address if elected?
- Setting aside the majority of the old Lowry Range Lands in a permanent conservation easement.
- Asking the Voters to continue the open space program and its funding.
- Examining the administrative structure of Arapahoe County.
