OUR MISSION:
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages
the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to
increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public
policy through education and advocacy.
POLICIES: In
its values and practices, the LWV affirms its members' beliefs and commitments
to diversity and pluralism that enhances its ability to respond more effectively
to changing conditions and needs. There shall be no barriers to participation
in any activity of the LWV on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual
orientation, national origin, or disability. The LWV recognizes that diverse
perspectives are important and necessary for responsible and representative
decision-making. The League does not support or endorse any political
candidate or party, but does take action on issues of government following
thorough research, study, and consensus of its members.
MEMBERSHIP:
Any person of voting age may become a member by contacting the Membership
Director of the local League and paying the current dues to the local
League Treasurer, or by contacting any local, state, or the national office
of the LWV.
There are approximately 80,000 members of the League of Women Voters within
all 50 states and the Virgin Islands. There are 1,500 members in Colorado.
Community leaders, national members, and its local members support the
League of Women Voters of Arapahoe County, Colorado.
